Ekaterina Paustyan

Postdoctoral Researcher, Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies

Welcome! I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies in Regensburg. Since July 2023, I am also an Associate Junior Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study (Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg) in Delmenhorst, Germany. I obtained Ph.D. in Political Science from Central European University in 2020. I was a research associate at the Russia Institute at King’s College London and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bremen. My research focuses on territorial politics, authoritarian regimes, electoral manipulation, political elites, Russia, Ukraine, Central and Eastern Europe.

I use case-based research methods including case studies, Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA), as well as social network analysis and panel data analysis. I am committed to advancing principles of research transparency and replicability. In January 2023, I joined the Discuss Data team as a data curator. It is an open repository for storing, sharing and discussing research data on Eastern Europe, South Caucasus, and Central Asia.
